Got a second motherboard to replace the first one I bought to fix my issue (first one they sent was defective and they happily sent a replacement). Had to go in and reconfigure my BIOS settings again (including RAID) and it booted right up like magic. I got my motherboard for $159 from a company called impact computers.

I really don't know what you require, so I can't answer your question. Me personally — I got my XPS on the cheap side through a contact, and do not use it for gaming. Photoshop + Windows is a RAM hog, but the machine gets the job done (and I'm only working on 1.5GB thanks to a fried stick).

Same problem here too, it started a few months ago and just wouldn't start up, no amber light on the button though and no signal to the monitor. I had noticed the fans were louder than normal at times but I thought it was just my imagination. Then it worked fine again for several months and just today I got nothin, tried to boot it up and there was no start up at all, no power, no lights, no nothin. During the past month or so I have also noticed that text on the screen get's thick and kind of blurry near the middle, and also near the right side. It's not the monitor because it's a HD TV that I use for my PS3 and havn't noticed any thick or blurry text when I use that. So, I'm not sure what that problem is. I am a gamer, nothing right now that will require extreme graphics capabilities, but is it worth investing more money in this machine at this point, or should I just buy a cheap comp somewhere and make sure it has a gig or so of ram and a decent graphics card to play?

Well the motherboard partially fixed my problem. I can get to the BIOS screen with the dell logo and status bar. But if I hit F2 to go to setup I get nothing but a blank screen, flashing cursor, and diagnostic lights 1 & 2. After more extensive troubleshooting, I'm going to try a new power supply. If that doesn't work, time to build a custom PC with non-proprietary parts I can replace without taking out a second mortgage when something goes wrong.

Mine has the same problem. One day it just wouldn't start. You hit the power button, diagnostic light #4 turns on, amber power button and then it shuts back off. After the same amount of forum research, I ordered a motherboard (Dell part GC375) from a 3rd party website that deals in older Dell hardware. Price $159 with a 90 day warranty. I'm sure it's a refurb, but it's half the price of the one's Dell is selling, if they even sell them anymore.

That's all it was.

A new Black President, or a woman president.

Now McCain is likely using a woman vice just to get votes. How many presidents have done this in the past?
